Buccaneer
diving internship programs
Our
very popular and successful internship programs are run on the
principle that the best way to learn anything is to be practically
involved with it. That's why our interns are treated as one of
the staff of Buccaneer diving during the program as they learn
to work in the dive industry at one of East Africa's busiest dive
centres. Leading up to the PADI Divemaster course, you will dive
daily with our Instructors and dive guides and once the Divemaster
portion has been successfully completed and you have passed our
own rigorous requirements you will be able to take on a role as
Divemaster for the period leading up to our PADI IDC program.
Our interns have generally found that the IDC / IE at the end
of the course is merely a step on the way to becoming a PADI Pro
Your role
As a Buccaneer Diving Intern, you will be treated as an employee,
and as such will be subject to the basic rules that our employees
adhere to, such as time keeping and dress codes. As the diving
is included in the cost of the internship (apart from Marine Park
fees), the more you work the more you get out of it. We have had
interns completing over 100 dives during the time they have spent
with us.
Our role
Our basic aim for the internship is to produce a PADI Instructor
who is experienced and capable enough to become a valuable asset
to any diving industry job he/she chooses. As such, we will introduce
every aspect of the dive industry to the course, including dive
leading, customer handling, equipment maintenance and sales, excursion
planning and daily dive school operations.
We realise that for many people working in the dive industry is
a life long ambition and we endeavour to make the experience fun
and rewarding.
The
structure
As we can take interns from Openwater through to Divemaster, we
do not have a rigid time requirement to the program, though we
find 3 months is an ideal period. During the course, as well as
the standard PADI courses, we will introduce the following topics:
-
Dive
leading
-
Assisting
the Instructor
-
Dive
planning
-
Customer
handling
-
Equipment
maintenance
