| From the bottom of the garden... |
Buccaneer Diving was started over twenty years ago in Mombasa by Bruce Phillips . Bruce's love of diving started as a child in 1977 encouraged by his father who was (and in fact still is) a very keen diver and one of the pioneers of diving in East Africa.
Initially Buccaneer Diving was very small and had only two members, Bruce as the Instructor and Ropa (presently our head captain) as the boat captain; it operated from the bottom of Bruce's parents' garden. |

Buccaneer Diving has now had the largest certification numbers in Kenya for several years in a row and is already a significant certifier in Zanzibar - Buccaneer's latest venture.
Buccaneer Diving has several dive centres in Kenya and 5 star IDC centre in Paje on the South East coast of Zanzibar. |

| In 1997 Buccaneer Diving was made the first PADI 5 star IDC centre in East Africa. Buccaneer Diving has also received PADI Service to Industry Awards, PADI Educational Awards and is the East Africa PADI re-distributor. In 2007 Buccaneer Diving was voted in the top 100 dive centres in the world by the readers of Unterwasser Magazine. |

Bruce Phillips is currently East Africa's only PADI Course Director and Buccaneer Diving is the major certifier of diving instructors in the region.
In fact a significant number of diving instructors in the area have completed an IDC at Buccaneer Diving. Buccaneer Diving is particularly proud of the opportunities it has afforded to local Kenyans and Tanzanians who have worked their way to becoming diving instructors and have found work not only in the East African market but as far as the Red Sea and the Caribbean. |

| Putting something back |
| Buccaneer Diving has been involved in many environmental projects. These include amongst others, free training courses for members of the Kenya Wildlife Service, regular beach clean ups and the creation of East Africa's largest artificial reef the MV Dania (see also Buccaneer Wrecks). Buccaneer Diving created 'Schools to the Sea' which introduces disadvantged children in the Mombasa area to the marine environment for the first time in their lives. |
